    CHAMPAIGN — Junior center fielder Willie Argo was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday, becoming the fourth member of the 2011 Illinois baseball team to be selected. On the final day of the MLB amateur draft, Argo was chosen in the 43rd round. He joins teammates Adam Davis, Josh Parr and Corey Kimes, who were drafted one day earlier.

    WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service has released a mostly upbeat assessment of the state’s winter wheat crop. The agency on Monday rated winter wheat condition as 8 percent excellent and 48 percent good. Another 33 percent of the crop was in fair condition.

    CHICAGO (AP) – Illinois’ unemployment rate fell to 10.1% in August. The Illinois Department of Employment Security says August represents the eighth consecutive month the rate was steady or declined. It was down slightly from July’s rate of 10.3%.
